I just want to create an RPM file to distribute my Linux binary 'foobar', with only a couple of dependencies. It has a config file, /etc/foobar.conf and should be installed in /usr/bin/foobar.
Did your computer fail to open a RPM file? We explain what RPM files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your RPM files.
What is a RPM file?
Files that contain the .rpm file extension are most commonly associated with the Linux operating system. The RPM file format was originally created for the Red Hat version of Linux, although other Linux operating systems now also use the RPM file format.
A RPM file contains installation packages for the Linux OS and they are used to install applications onto computers that are run on the Linux platform.
The .rpm file extension is also used for RealMedia plug-in modules. These files contain plug-ins that allow a user to add more features to their RealMedia media player, which is a program that allows a user to play audio and video media on their computer.
